Chris Kemper
Chris is a mission-driven entrepreneur and leader at the intersection of climate change and technology. He is the Founder, CEO, and Chairman of Palmetto Clean Technology, a platform focused on reimagining decentralized energy systems to accelerate a decarbonized future.
Palmetto is financially backed by institutional investors, including Lebron James, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Drake, and Billie Eilish. Chris is also the Founder & CEO of Planet A Productions, a nonprofit media company that educates and inspires people to take action in the environment.
Since its incorporation in 2010, Palmetto has deployed tens of billions in clean technology assets worldwide.
His approach blends capitalism with environmentalism, shaped by hard-earned experience and a deep belief in market-based solutions to global challenges. Under his leadership, Palmetto has become an award-winning top platform empowering consumers to transition to renewable energy.
Chris established the “Pay It Forward For Climate Initiative”, whereby 99.99% of his net worth is paid forward to promote environmental activism and preserve the planet through The Christopher Kemper Foundation.
While Chris has a number of awards and accolades over his career, he is most grateful moment of recognition was an entrepreneur with the Goldman Sachs Entrepreneur Innovation Award in 2022 and, again, in 2024. He was also appointed an Advocate to the United Nations and is Chairman of the Young Champions Programme, which enables early-stage entrepreneurs worldwide. He is a frequent contributor to Forbes and Inc 500.
Before founding Palmetto, Chris honed his expertise in policy and finance through work with organizations such as the United Nations, LDI, and Tradition. He studied history and economics at Rhodes College in Memphis, graduate-level environmental economics at University of North Carolina, environmental planning and policy at Center for Environmental Planning and Technology in Ahmedabad, India (via Ball State University) and Masters of Business Administration at MIT Sloane. Chris is currently working on his Climate Fellowship at MIT.
When not building companies or advocating for the planet, Chris is an avid hiker, a terrible golfer, and a struggling fly fisherman, but he loves the outdoors. He loves to write and enjoys humor, which he thinks is the ultimate tackling of significant issues like climate change by making difficult topics easier to discuss and understand.
